Tour du Mont Blanc – Sep 2022

The Tour du Mont Blanc

PREP & PLAN – Aug/ Sept 2022

My first thought is to explain why , when on the trail I would normally post daily that this blogger would take so long to post this adventure.

Trepidation ?

Vertigo ?

Total immersion in the experience ?

Is not unknown 😆 for me to overprepare a trip. Something that’s part of the enjoyment, but also it can build up the experience into a behemoth, that in reality it turns out not to be.

It has never been more true than with the Tour du Mont Blanc known as the TMB . A 10 day 4 country hike with a rise and fall of over 40,000 feet.

I INHALED the experience. Loved every second. Forgot to write.

That’s my excuses for late posting out of the way .

It Looks like this

4 Countries- if you count France twice

The daily rise & fall – how’s this going to work out ?

Or a profile with the all important Huts and Refuges that we’ve chosen to stay in . It’s the romance of the traditional classic route that always sways m

Will we regret the Haut Route ?

Our merry band choose to travel light – no hold luggage. What’s the point in carrying a gram more than necessary if you’re going to carry it up and down the equivalent of Everest 🙄

Under 10kg each inc’ Backpacks

KIT TIP – there is so much talk and concern on hiking forums wether specific to TMB or the Camino to Santiago about hiking poles. You 100% need them.

You take a small risk of confiscation at airport security when taking them in hand luggage . So think carefully before you pack your £300 Black Diamond Carbons.

It’s never happen to me – but lessen the chance of losing them by :-

Choosing Tri-fold poles – they fold smaller , look less threatening. We chose heavier ones for this trip 619grams a pair – cheaper too £30 so if you lose them to a search you can replace without too much regret.

They worked a treat for this trip – I’d take lighter ones on long distance flat Camino’s though 👍

Take spare rubber tips – they last 4 days on a long hike .

Easy Jet make the trip £70 rtn each if you book as soon as the flights come out – set notifications.

All that’s left to say before we set off is that the transfers from Geneva to Chamonix range from £40 PP to £400 . We chose the lovely Alpy Bus people £120 for all 3 – and Terry our driver made an unscheduled stop at our hotel !

Packs on ……

See you when we reach Chamonix
