Saints Way – Padstow to St Wenn #tsci24

There are few better ways than to start your day with sea air & home cooked breakfast.

It feels special to be in a place like Padstow before anyone arrives – like staying overnight at an Nautical Themed amusement park – getting access to the rides an hour before the gates open.

Wondering around the harbour and quaint Notting Hill on Sea shops on this fresh sunny morning.

Soaps are themed around enclaves comfortably familiar to the locals.

Ahh – Eau du ‘Edgefund

Hospitality was excellent and Tonys’ cooking at the Northerner themed t’Breakfast ( Darts and a pint with your Smashed Avocado anyone ? ) set us up for the day.

Recent eye surgery means I play with a Bionic accuracy. 😎

Or it may well be this stuff – I dare you to order it without slipping into a Cornish Accent . ( No – they’re not offended : Yes – they are sick of it )

A great stay at the London Inn – Rooms recommended . So farewell to Tony the Boss and Ellie.

And so to the main business of the day .

Firstly – head to St Petrocs Church and meet Tracey at the Parish office. She has been sent some Pilgrims passports especially printed for this trip .

Success ! and we have unusually been given our first stamp by the CSJ themselves .

We leave St Petrocs in sunny but cool weather- perfect for walking

The Way of the Saints starts here at this Lychgate – a gate of resurrection to English churchyards – seems appropriate.

Beyond Redemption 👀🤣

And our first way marker of many – the yellow arrows , the flèche d’or – familiar on Spanish Caminos

The way opens onto the Headland above Padstow …… and we feel we are finally underway after a year of planning and anticipation.

The first thing you notice is that the marker posts are either every 200 meters or not to be seen at all ……

It’s reassuring to know you’ve not strayed , a welcome sight.

Then sometimes nothing …. Not a crossroads , nor field boundaries. For those following us with OS maps good luck . Go Sat Nav 👍 We recommend the free app – All Trails – it’s has the Saints Way in it and thousands more and you can overlay your current position over the route – it helped us many times today .

It’s a well known route , a tourist attraction and sometimes it’s hard to keep on top of Mother Nature . BUT ! – Cornwall C.C. – send a couple of lads down with Machetés or Agent Orange

But it’s sooo worth it . Here another St Petrocs with a stunning interior and our third stamp of the Camino .

Marvelously cared for , spiritual & historical

Medieval Artistry open to all

This first part of the way is 80 % uphill – it’s narrow and winding . So you don’t cover ground like an arguably less picturesque flat camino – so as we arrive in the hamlet of Treliver near St Wenn – it’s a welcome sight after a 25000 step and 370 floor day .

I’d like to claim this Fitbit read out is right – But for some reason just in the steps it ain’t . Looks good though 👀

Our stay tonight at Treliver Farm House B&B looks very impressive as we walk up the driveway- we’ve just had the most entertaining home cooked dinner and great table conversation. Pics tomorrow as it’s time to take the Alberque decision of lights out by 10.00pm .

Night xxx
