Tall Ships Camino Inglés – June 2024

On Board just passing Lizard Point

Some great photos sent from ashore as we leave Fowey 👍

.You can see where we are at any stage on this free Marine locator

And this too – I think credit goes to Kate on dry land for these 👏👏

And then the Documentary film maker Glenn Travis starts to add to the record of this voyage – that’s going to be interesting when edited next month .

Our crew comes from mainly the UK – but a few from Europe plus long distance folk like Micheal here is from Tucson Arizona.

It seems unreal to be doing this in the 21st century.

You can see that the sheer fascination of being under sail on a tall ship will remain for a long time . It’s another century.

Our Locator Beacon resets with our destination clearly showing as A Corunnã on the far northern tip of Spain.

Our watches being 4.00am to 8.00am and the same on the afternoon means you have to get sleep where you can. This means Blue Watch sleeps 9.00am to 12.00pm and 9.00pm to 3.45am – manageable for a week.

And I can’t tell just how dark it is when you turn out at 4.00 am. On a moving , twisting , leaping ship with a thousand ropes , no deck lights and 4 stairwells – tread carefully

No torches or flash to preserve night vision results in infrared photos of ……. Well not a lot really 🫢 . This

Or this ….. 👀 Pre-dawn Helm

I’ll have to arrange my photo times better.

Gets slightly more interesting at chilly sunrise

5.30 am traditional Toasties served by Leon have never tasted better.

My first dawn in the Atlantic is cold and clear , good winds and a gradual realization of what’s to come ….

Blogging stops as does all mobile comms once the 12 mile from land limit is reached so I post wherever I can.

First Dawn

We are replaced on deck and gladly head down to breakfast – vast amounts of Coffee , Blueberry Porridge , fresh bread , chopped fruit with plain yoghurt is my choice before bed.

With a final look back at the Helm after a memorable first night – as white watch takes over – the first 24 hours ends.

Let’s see what the next day holds .

Xxxx
