Tall Ships Camino Inglés – June 2024

To Fowey and the End of the Saints Way

Or End of the Dry Bit and tomorrow the Boaty bit .

Miedo is a great Spanish word – akin to Meh maybe when feeling neither good / bad or Happy/ sad when considering a 7 day trip in a relatively small ship across the Atlantic/ Bay of Biscay .

In fact it means “Trepidation” – that too is true.

Here is the “Morgenster” in Fowey Harbour tonight waiting to take us on the evening tide tomorrow.

This morning at the Crown in Lanlivery we had breakfast with yet more interesting people to add to this trip .

One a Nashville recording star and the other a Professor famed for his leading various Shakespeare Trusts and Nationally famed festivals.

Roxie Rogers http://roxierogers.com

and Professor Roger Pringle http://rogerpringle.co.uk/

We leave the landlord and owner – Tim Nash giving us some interesting history of this place and how came to own it outright – No meddlesome brewery bureaucracy here.

And on through the 1000 year old deep tracks where the fields either said are 10 feet higher . They’re the best place to trek where the weather can’t reach you.

and on to the isolated hamlet and church of St Sampson –

And another stamp near to a holy well – renowned for its healing powers..

I’m puzzled at the carving on the Lych gate of 2 of Shakespearean characters- Tristan and Isolde – if only I knew a world authority on Shakespeare. ? …….. on yes – of course 😆

From there – 3 hours later to our final destination- at least for this stage !

This is the start of the great gathering – where all 36 on this adventure finally meet up. – they’ve been staying in inns . Tents , on Church floors – anywhere and everywhere 🥰👌

The coast beckons but not before we pass the Best named Ice cream shop ! Clearly a GOT super fan .

And here we are !

We’ve got our own boat thanks –

……: and to our final dry land stopover at this 600 year old pub . It turns out every room is coincidentally booked to a Member of our crew . We start to meet and chat and share stories of the trail.

A meet up before dinner with Vaughan , Steven , John Henry , Dr Anne leads to a great evening – notwithstanding the visit from an organised pub crawl and. 90’s disco .

Let’s see how this night goes 😆🥰

Xxxxxxxx
